In the midst of all the bustle last week leading to Feile na Laoch, I had a visit on Thursday/Friday (1st in 30 years) from my teacher and harpsichord/organ guru, Christopher Stembridge. (more…)

Táim 'Up to my eyeballs' le Féile na Laoch an deireadh seachtaine seo ag teacht ach mar sin féin tá CD nua i gclár na seachtaine seo. Taifeadadh sa tig ansa é bliain ó shoin. Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh agus Mick O Brian atá ann, CD iontach dar liom.
While I am up to my eyeballs in preparation for next weekends Feile na Laoch I do have a new CD in this weekend's program. It was actually recorded in the house here over a year ago. It is by those wonderful musicians Mick O Brian and Caoimhin Ó Raghallaigh. Deadly Buzz or Aoibhinn Cronán is the name of same and I think it is a wonderful CD.
Track listings for the program can be downloaded here or seen below.
Program can be heard online at its Raidió na Gaeltachta page.

Fáilte romhat a dhuine uasail, welcome to this site which is my front door on the world. Tá mórán le feiscint is le clos ansa. Bíonn fáilte agam roim fiosraithe.
There is a lot to see and hear and you may have to click around a bit to find what you are looking for. Living in the West Cork mountains here is a lifestyle which is wonderful at times but winter also visits.
Man has lived here for a long time. Continuity is the norm. I live in the house my father lived and gaeilge is the language of our community. It's rhythm is reflected in our music and culture.
As life is not a return trip, every minute is precious. I also believe the phrase "Aoibhinn beatha an scoláire" - beautiful is the life of the scholar.
Is é an ceol an príomh suim sa tsaoghal agam ach go h-áirithe ceol traidisiúnta, ársa, treibheach, ceol eaglasta nó spioradálta agus ceolclaisiceach Eorapach ach suim i ngach saghas ceoil 'na dteannta san. Tá suim agam i gcuir le chéile agus feabhalsúnacht ceoil. Is é an cumadóireacht, ina ngnéithibh éagsúil, an príomh tréith ach is breá liom bheith ag seinnt
Bím ag pléadh le léiriú is stiúiriú scannáin ar uairibh ach le blianta beaga anuas, is mar abhar nó aoí ar an dtaobh eile den ceamara is minicí a bhím. Scríobhann gearr scéalta agus altanna. Táim páirteach ar roinnt mhaith bordaibh is coistí deonacha a bhaineann leis an gcultúr nó le hoideachas ar chumadh éigin. Lasmuigh dhe sin, tá suim agam i mbeachadóireacht, ealaíontóireacht, creidimh is spioradáltacht éagsúil, leigheas agus cultúr daoinibh. Is mó deach agus aghaidh atá ar chultúr ó áit go háit agus is mó cúis suimiúil a bhíonn le teacht an aghaidh sin.
Music is the main interest in my life, particularly traditional music, ancient music, tribal music or spiritual music and classical musics. I find the construction and philosophy involved in music fascinating. Composition in all it’s different facets is my main focus but I really enjoy playing music as well.
From time to time I have been directing or producing film work (documentary) but find myself on the other end of a camera more often these days, as a subject or a talking head! I have been known to write a little and have published some books and articles. I also am on a number of boards and committees as a voluntary contribution. These are all to do with culture or education. Outside of that I am an avid beekeeper, I do a little painting with oils, and I have a great interest in spirituality, healing and peoples culture. I find the course of a culture’s development over the passing of time, very interesting.

This tune came about during the week when we first came together in April 2009. Obama was very much in the news and as I admired his intelligence and ability I felt that he would be a graceful dancer. In the course of our antics and tunes Martin mentioned that he heard that Obama did a workout every morning and finished off to the music of the Irish band Lúnasa on his iPod. “Aha” says I to myself, “what kind of sound would get his toes tapping.” Then this tune came to me. If he ever hears it I wonder will its tonality and rhythm, which he caused, fit his ear and find rhythm in his feet!
