The Drôle.
We started the Drôle in Spring 2013. We have been playing together for the last 40 years and just decided, "dammit why don't we just record the fact that we have been playing together for the last 40 years?". So we recorded "A few tunes for our friends" in a few days in early June. We recorded in the Draighean and 'launched' two weeks later at the Willy Clancy Summer School.
We love playing together and enjoy each others company. We are just what we are - three old codgers playing a few tunes and sharing a few yarns. We don't have any great ambition other then the few tunes as often as possible. Johns father John Kelly Senior, was a founding member of my father's, Seán O Riada, band Ceoltóirí Chualan. Thus we know each other since childhood. We came across Eamon McGiveny shortly after Willie Clancy died and we started going to Milltown Malbay to celebrate Willie's life each year.
So any excuse and we will meet up. If you were interested in us doing a gig somewhere, just fill in the form at bottom of this page or ring 087 3973707 and we will get back to you. We will travel if we are interested but as we are not a professional 'band' we only play where we feel we would enjoy the experience or the company. And that is mostly anywhere, really, without too much hardship. We are on face book here
